A poem by Otis
"A New Life"
"I've spent my life doing things my own way,
Always thought I'd get by if I'd just sometimes pray...
The Lord was in my heart, but He wasn't first place,
My way was not all that great, I fell flat on my face...
I've been given this chance to turn it all around,
Maybe like so many others, I was lost but now found...
Sweet Jesus, help me change how I act, and even how I think,
Lord, please take away the pills, the heroin, the coke, and the drink...
The evil thoughts that can cripple-- pride, hatred, and greed,
Always chasing things of the flesh when the Spirit's what I need...
Please, lift the veil from my eyes, so I can look full on you,
Let the Spirit come inside and do what only He can do...
The future has never looked brighter though I sit here in chains,
My soul is a freshly plowed field after life giving rains...
Thanks to a merciful Father, one day I'll walk out of this prison,
With a new life in the Spirit and the Son who is risen!" "Amen"
